How to export emails to Excel in new Outlook
Classic Outlook could export a folder to a CSV file through its Import/Export wizard. New Outlook doesn't have that wizard. Here's how to get a list of emails into Excel anyway.
What new Outlook can do on its own
You can save a single email as a file, or copy and paste a few lines by hand. There's no built-in way to turn a list of emails into a spreadsheet with columns for date, sender and subject.
The one-click way: Mailsheaf
- Select the emails you want in your message list (Ctrl+click or Shift+click).
- Open Mailsheaf from the Apps menu or the ribbon and go to the Export list tab.
- Tick the columns you want: date, sender name and address, recipients, Cc, subject, whether it has attachments, the attachment names, and a preview or the full body text.
- Click Export CSV. Open the file in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers.
It's handy for invoice logs, keeping a record of client correspondence, tracking job applications, or handing a list of emails to a bookkeeper or lawyer.
Everything runs on your computer. Your mail isn't uploaded anywhere.
Install Mailsheaf (free)
- Download the Mailsheaf file (mailsheaf-manifest.xml). It's the small setup file Outlook asks for.
- Go to aka.ms/olksideload. Outlook on the web opens and the Add-ins for Outlook window appears after a few seconds.
- Choose My add-ins, then at the bottom under Custom add-ins choose Add a custom add-in > Add from File, pick the file you downloaded, and click Install.
Mailsheaf then shows up in new Outlook and Outlook on the web, and should also appear in classic Outlook on the same account.
It's free for up to 10 emails at a time. Full details on the Mailsheaf page.
Also in Mailsheaf
- Save all attachments from many emails as one ZIP
- Download several emails as .eml files, or print them all at once on one page (or save it as a PDF)
