How to save all attachments from multiple emails in new Outlook

New Outlook can save the attachments from one email at a time, but not from a whole batch. Here's the short answer, then the free way to do it in one click.

Can new Outlook do this on its own?

Not for several emails at once. Open a single email and you can use Download all on its attachments, which gives you a ZIP for that one message. To get the files from 20 invoices you'd repeat that 20 times.

Classic Outlook users used to get around this with a VBA macro or a desktop add-in. New Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web don't run macros or the old desktop add-ins, so those fixes stopped working when people were moved over.

The one-click way: Mailsheaf

Mailsheaf is a small add-in that runs inside new Outlook and Outlook on the web.

  1. Select the emails in your message list. Use Ctrl+click, or Shift+click for a range.
  2. Open Mailsheaf from the Apps menu or the ribbon.
  3. On the Attachments tab, click Save attachments. Every file from every selected email lands in one ZIP in your Downloads folder.

Options worth knowing:

Your mail is never sent anywhere. Mailsheaf reads the emails you selected and builds the ZIP on your own computer.

Install Mailsheaf (free)

  1. Download the Mailsheaf file (mailsheaf-manifest.xml). It's the small setup file Outlook asks for.
  2. Go to aka.ms/olksideload. Outlook on the web opens and the Add-ins for Outlook window appears after a few seconds.
  3. Choose My add-ins, then at the bottom under Custom add-ins choose Add a custom add-in > Add from File, pick the file you downloaded, and click Install.

Mailsheaf then shows up in new Outlook and Outlook on the web, and should also appear in classic Outlook on the same account.

It's free for up to 10 emails at a time. Full details on the Mailsheaf page.

Common questions

Does it work at work? If your company blocks custom add-ins, an IT admin can deploy the same file for everyone from the Microsoft 365 admin center (Integrated apps).

How many emails at once? Up to 10 free. Mailsheaf Pro handles up to 100, which is the most Outlook lets an add-in select.
