Shadequill: sum and count by color in Google Sheets™
Google Sheets has no function that adds up cells by their colour. Shadequill adds them: SUMBYCOLOR, COUNTBYCOLOR and more, plus a sidebar that totals every colour in a range at once.
What it does
- Formulas:
=SUMBYCOLOR(B2:B100, D1)adds the cells with the same fill as D1;=COUNTBYCOLORcounts them. CELLCOLOR and FONTCOLOR show a cell's colour code. - Colour scan: pick a range and see every colour in it with its count and sum, then insert the formula for any row in one click.
- Recolouring? Click Refresh: Sheets doesn't recalculate when only a colour changes, so Shadequill adds a one-click Refresh (and an optional refresh after each edit) that updates every colour formula at once.
- Pro: average, min, max and COUNTIF by colour, every function by text colour, VALUESBYCOLOR inside any function, conditional-formatting colours for the common rule types, and a live summary table.
Free and Pro
SUMBYCOLOR, COUNTBYCOLOR, CELLCOLOR, FONTCOLOR, the fill-colour scan and Refresh are free. Shadequill Pro costs $7.99, paid once, and is bought from inside the add-on. There's no subscription and nothing renews.
Private by design
Shadequill can only see the spreadsheet you're using it in, and your data never leaves Google Sheets. There's no server, no tracking and no analytics; the only outside request is checking a Pro license key with Gumroad. Read the privacy policy and terms.
