Cluequill: puzzle maker for Google Docs™
Type your words in the sidebar and Cluequill puts a printable puzzle and its answer key right into your document. Six kinds of puzzles, free to use; Pro adds large print and more.
What it makes
- Word search: easy, medium or hard (backwards and diagonal), every word placed exactly once.
- Crossword: a real crossword grid from your own words and clues, numbered, with Across and Down lists.
- Fill-in: the word list grouped by length with one starter word, checked to have exactly one solution.
- Word scramble, sudoku and cryptogram: sudoku in three levels with exactly one solution; cryptograms from your own sayings.
How it works
- In Google Docs, open Extensions > Cluequill > Make a puzzle.
- Pick a puzzle, type a title and your words (one per line; add a clue after an equals sign for crosswords).
- Press Insert puzzle into document. The puzzle goes in at your cursor, with the answer key on its own page.
Free and Pro
Every puzzle type, up to 20 words, with answer keys, is free (with a small "Made with Cluequill" line). Pro adds large print for older eyes, up to 40 words, up to 10 different versions at once, and no credit line. Pro is the same key as the Puzzle Maker on our website: one purchase covers both.
Private by design
Cluequill can only reach the document you're using it in, and it only adds the puzzle; it doesn't read your other text. Your words never leave your browser and Google Docs. The only outside request is your browser checking a Pro license key with Gumroad. Read the privacy policy and terms.
