Everyday words, one page at a time.
A large-print workbook for adults practicing speech and language skills after a stroke or brain injury. Every page holds one clear activity, with a short direction at the top that a family member or friend can read aloud. The print is big, the pages are uncluttered, and there is plenty of room to write.
The book is organized in three levels, from single words and pictures up to short stories, everyday forms and longer writing. Each level covers the same six areas, so it is easy to move up in one skill at a time:
- Naming and word finding: name the picture, name things in a group, finish common word pairs and expressions, and "what's the word?" clues
- Word meanings: opposites, rhyming words, and matching words to their meanings
- Understanding: yes-or-no questions, finishing sentences, and following written directions
- Reading: short passages with questions, growing a little longer at each level
- Everyday tasks: putting the steps of daily routines in order
- Writing: copying letters, words and sentences, a shopping list, a phone message, a simple form and short notes
Also included: a "How to Use This Book" page, tips for family and friends, a two-page progress log, and a complete answer key listed by page number.
All pictures are simple drawings made for this book, and every direction is written in plain, adult language.
This workbook is educational practice material. It is not medical advice and is not a substitute for a speech-language pathologist or other qualified professional.
