A working replacement for Sorted Paragraphs

"Sorted Paragraphs" was installed millions of times, but it hasn't been updated since 2022 and stopped working in 2026: its menu only shows "Help". Sortquill does the same job, keeps your bullets and formatting, and sorts numbers the way people expect.

How it works

  1. Click inside a list, or select the paragraphs you want to sort.
  2. Choose Extensions > Sortquill > Sort A → Z (or Z → A, or Reverse).
  3. Open Outline & settings for a clickable list of your headings.

Free, or $5 once

Sorting and the outline are free. Sortquill Unlimited adds Shuffle, Remove duplicates, Sort by length and automatic heading numbering, for one payment of $5.

Private by design

Sortquill can only see the document you're using it in, and your text never leaves Google Docs. Read the privacy policy and terms.

Questions & answers

Why did Sorted Paragraphs stop working?

The popular "Sorted Paragraphs" add-on hasn't been updated since 2022, and in 2026 it stopped working: its menu only shows "Help". Sortquill is a new, maintained add-on that does the same job and more.

How do I alphabetize a list in Google Docs?

Install Sortquill, click inside your list (or select the paragraphs), then choose Extensions > Sortquill > Sort A → Z. Bullets, numbering and formatting are kept, and indented sub-points move with their parent.

Can it sort a bibliography or works cited page?

Yes. Select the entries and sort A → Z. Turn on "Ignore The, A, An" in the sidebar if your titles start with articles.

Does it sort numbers correctly?

Yes. Sortquill sorts "item 2" before "item 10", unlike a plain alphabetical sort.

Is there a table of contents sidebar?

Yes. Extensions > Sortquill > Outline & settings shows every heading; click one to jump to it.

What does it cost?

Sorting and the outline are free. Sortquill Unlimited adds Shuffle, Remove duplicates, Sort by length and automatic heading numbering for a single $5 payment.
