Free Christmas Word Search Printable, Large Print

Four free Christmas puzzles in true large print: an easier word search, a harder one, a word scramble and a cryptogram. Every puzzle comes with its answer key.

These Christmas word searches were made for people who want to enjoy the puzzle, not squint at it. Every letter is at least 16 point, and the grids have room to breathe. Deck the Halls is the gentle one: a 13 x 13 grid where words run across, down and diagonally but never backwards. Christmas Classics is the hard Christmas word search: a 15 x 15 grid of names from the movies and songs everyone grew up with (Scrooge, Clarence, Ralphie, Whoville), hidden in every direction, backwards included.

For variety there is a Christmas Kitchen word scramble with a hint for every word, and a Christmas cryptogram that hides a line from Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol. Print one, or download all eight pages in a single PDF.

Planning the whole month? Our December activities for seniors guide has a week-by-week plan, and the Christmas trivia quiz pairs well with these puzzles.

How activity directors use it

Hand out Deck the Halls to the whole group and keep Christmas Classics for your strongest solvers or for pairs; the movie names start conversations on their own. A word search takes most residents 15 to 30 minutes. The scramble works well read aloud: write the jumbled letters on a whiteboard, read the hint, and let the room call out the answer. The cryptogram suits a quiet table of two or three people who like a challenge.

For residents living with memory loss, our easy printable puzzles include a 10 x 10 Christmas word search with only eight short words.

Printing and sharing

Printing tip: when the print window opens, choose Actual size or 100% so the letters print as large as they were made (every letter is at least 16 point). Make as many copies as you need for your family, residents or group.

Newsletter editors: you are welcome to reprint these puzzles in a free senior center, library, church or community newsletter, as long as the credit line at the foot of the page stays on. Please don't sell them or post the PDF files elsewhere; link to this page instead. Want puzzles sized for your layout every issue? See free puzzles for your newsletter.
