Two free winter word searches (one easier, one harder) and a winter word scramble, in big, clear print with answer keys. Good from December right through February.
Winter is a long season for an activity calendar, so these puzzles avoid holidays and work any week from the first snow to the last. A Snowy Day is a 13 x 13 large print winter word search with 15 words (snow angel, chickadee, wind chill) running across, down and diagonally, never backwards. Winter Warmers is the harder winter word search: a 15 x 15 grid of cozy things (cardigan, pot roast, rocking chair) hidden in every direction.
The Winter Wonders word scramble has ten words, each with a hint. Every page prints in black and white and every answer key is included.

How activity directors use it
Winter word searches are a reliable filler for snow days and for the slow weeks after the holidays. Set out A Snowy Day with coffee for a 20-minute puzzle hour, and offer Winter Warmers to anyone who finishes early. The words in Winter Warmers are good conversation starters: ask who still has a hand-knit afghan, or whose house had a woodstove.
Read the scramble aloud as a group game: write the jumbled letters large on a board, give the hint, and let the room work it out together.
Printing and sharing
Printing tip: when the print window opens, choose Actual size or 100% so the letters print as large as they were made (every letter is at least 16 point). Make as many copies as you need for your family, residents or group.
